Peak District Proud Ambassadors

The Peak District Proud Ambassador Scheme has been created by the Peak District National Park in partnership with the National Parks Management partners, the Peak District Foundation and the BMC.

The Peak District National Park is a fantastic landscape enjoyed by many, so much so that many are keen to help in practical ways. Here we’ve started a list of things people can do, especially as we all recover from the impacts of Covid-19. Alongside welcoming people back to the Peak District we want to help everyone understand and respect it. We know that many local people are already picking up litter and monitoring issues as they happen. We hope the information and resources here will encourage this fresh and positive attitude, and help create a new and growing team of Peak District Proud Ambassadors.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Peak District Proud Ambassadors should always follow the latest Government Covid-19 restrictions and guidance.

Borrow Litter Picking Kit

Help us look after this beautiful area and support those who live and work in the Peak District by keeping it tidy. As part of the Peak District Proud Ambassador scheme, we are making litter picking kits available to borrow from Peak District National Park visitor centres. Each kit contains a picking guide, bags, a hi-vis jacket and a litter picker, and will be available from 7 September 2021. They will initially be available from our Castleton and Bakewell visitor centres on a day hire basis.

Find Opportunities to Get Involved

Volunteer with Peak Park Conservation Volunteers

This year the BMC want to remove mountains of waste from the places we love. There are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean. If no action is taken, this figure will treble within the next ten years. 80% of litter in the seas comes from inland. Plastic bottles, crisp packets, cigarette packs and cans will end up in our oceans unless we do something about it. Find out more about the BMC Hills 2 Oceans campaign.

Pick Fit is a new initiative from High Peak Borough Council, challenging residents to get fit while supporting the local community. To find out more and sign-up for Pick Fit click here.
